Final trip to Turkey

The last Comenius meeting “You in my mind” was held in Kirikkale (Turkey) between the 13 and 19 of May 2012. The first day we visited  Amasra, a small Black sea port town appreciated for its beaches and natural setting, which has made tourism the most important activity for its inhabitants. We could see Amasra Castle, the Old Bazaar, and taste fried fish in one of its restaurants. In our way back we stopped at the Old town of Safranbolu, UNESCO World Heritage site. The name of the town derives from “saffron” and was a trading place and a center for growing saffron. We visited the local museum and could admire its historical buildings.

On Tuesday the 15th the group met at Anadolu Ogretmen Lisesi in Kirikkale and were delighted with an Ottoman Band and traditional Turkish dances. Then we were welcomed by the headmaster, teachers and students and pay a visit to the school. Work meeting in the afternoon for teachers.
On Wednesday and Thursday we travelled to Cappadocia: Ihlara Valley, Derinkuyu Underground City, Uçhisar, Avanos (where we stayed overnight), Zelve Valley and Göreme (open air museum). Back in Kirikkale we had our farewell party.
Saturday 18th we spent our last day near the Kizilirmak river in a picnic area with small contest for the students while teachers prepared the meal.
